Teen 24: BBC News 24 (Worldwide) 4th July 2007

The BBC contacted FirstSigns for a documentary series called 'Teen 24', hosted by Myleen Klass. One of our members, 'Charlotte' was brave enough to volunteer and talk about her feelings and self-injurious behaviour. Charlotte did an excellent job at raising awareness, breaking stereotypes and FirstSigns got a mention too.

"I eventually came to a point where I was numb with all the hurt, physically and mentally. I had no self-respect left and didn't know where to turn. I was broken and willing to try anything and everything.

"I wanted help but how do you ask for help with something you can't speak about?"

The Wright Stuff: Ch 5 (UK) 13th Feb 2006

The Wright Stuff contacted FirstSigns and asked to speak with a someone with personal experience of self injury.

Many of you responded to our query (thank you) and Jenny was selected to speak with Matthew Wright and Dr. Catherine (of the Daily Mirror).

Wedge attended and was very pleased to see the FirstSigns self injury awareness wristbands prominantly mentioned!

"We've had loads of people sign up for the Newsletter, and join our Message Board, and even more people have ordered wristbands; general hits on the website have nearly doubled for the day; it's been great.

"Matthew said how The Wright Stuff's phonelines went mad when I spoke about my self harm in 2002, and he was genuinely interested in understanding the subject of self injury, I think he really took a shine to Jenny."

It was fantastic of Jenny to speak out on the subject of self harm, and she looked and sounded so good in the studio and on TV, FirstSigns would like to thank her for her enthusiasm, bravery and support.

The Wright Stuff: Ch 5 (UK) 2002

In the summer of 2002, Laura and Wedge were invited to take part in The Wright Stuff on channel 5; live television.

Matthew Wright hosted a feature length show focussing on self harm, and Wedge was interviewed.

Back in 2002, FirstSigns was only just coming together, however, Matthew was kind enough to promote Wedge's website.

"I can not recommend enough Wedge's website..." said Matthew. "check it out, it's an amazing site."

In 2004 The Wright Stuff revisited the subject of self harm, and FirstSigns was mentioned by a friend of FirstSigns who appeared live on the show.
