I can so relate to this. I even remember the specific occasion when i was little that caused me to think, okay, that's the last time I tell anyone how I'm feeling. As recently as last week my mother was telling me just to say what i was thinking, and i said, no i'll get in trouble (at 22yrs old...) and she lost it.

feels good - helps me knowing where things come from.

I had never thought about things in that way.
cigarette burns follow
marshmallow skies
a sunset like hellfire
falls under our eyes
and it's really no contest
it was never our aim
to sit here in silence
surrounded by shame

Meaning that, it opened my eyes - psychology is fascinating, and very useful when you understand it. thanks for posting the link.

brilliant page! it all makes so much more sense now
thanks especially for the link the Steve Hein's site. the "examples of invalidating expressions" reads like the libretto for almost every family fight that happened when I was growing up. I wouldn't be naive enought to say that explains everything, that it's "the" reason I became a self-harmer, but it's certainly helped me understand things a lot better.

thank you.
